Watched La Dolce Vita today.
As mentioned in the opening address, it is:
-a 50 year old film
-3 hours long
-in black and white
That basically describes the movie.
I was expecting something different and found 3 hours a bit too long, especially after becoming so used to 1-2 hour movies packed full of action and special effects. But it was charismatic in its own way. I like listening to foreign languages. And with La Dolce Vita there were a few different languages going on. I also got to see lots of Italian architecture and scenery which was nice. Oh, and also got a glimpse of life in Rome in the 1950's/1960's. (Whether it is accurate or not, I don't know. But nonetheless it was interesting).
During the opening address, the man talked about how Cineteca di Bologna had restored the film and about how wonderful the Film Festival in Bologna is — with the summer breeze and starry skies. And I just remembered, I was there last year! In the piazza, with the massive outdoor screen and seats. I was in Bologna almost every night for 2 weeks and I just let it pass by! Can't believe I didn't watch anything there. ARGH! Why! Why! Why! I. do. not. know.
