I have nothing against Jehovah's Witnesses going around door knocking.
They seem very passionate about what they are doing.
But I wonder how many people actually convert. It doesn't seem very practical.
In general I don't think people like to have serious, religious conversations with strangers, at their door-front.
A few days ago, two Jehovah's Witnesses came by. They tried to make a normal conversation first –
JW : Hi. What an immaculate, clean lawn you have. Who keeps the lawn so clean?
Me : Oh the lawn-mowing guy...
I wasn't trying to end the conversation or be rude or anything. It was a closed question! And I am not the most conversational person. I much prefer listening. If they held a proper public debate-style lecture at uni or at the town hall, I would be interested in going and listening.
Anyway, they then went on to ask what I was most afraid of.
I really couldn't think of anything on the spot, so I said that I wasn't sure.
They suggested that I should be afraid of death and what happens after death.
This was at around 1pm when I was in the middle of preparing my lunch.
I wanted to tell them, right now I'm more afraid that a fly will sit on my avocado sandwich. But I didn't of course.
After they left, I ate my avocado sandwich thinking about what animal I would want to be if I was ever reincarnated and also whether a fly had in fact sat on my sandwich while I left it unguarded.
